What Canvas Companion collects

Canvas Companion collects the account email address you use to sign in, your Canvas site address, an encrypted Canvas access token, connection and authorization records for supported AI assistants, and subscription identifiers and status received from Stripe. It also processes the Canvas content you ask the service to retrieve or submit.

For abuse prevention and service diagnostics, private API access logs record the source IP address observed by our gateway, request identifiers, timestamps, HTTP methods, request paths without query strings, status codes, and latency. These logs have a 30-day retention setting. Source IP addresses and request paths are not included in automated alert emails. A source IP may identify a shared network or proxy rather than an individual.

How the information is used

The information is used to operate your account, securely connect to Canvas and supported AI assistants, provide requested course and assignment features, manage paid access, prevent abuse, and diagnose service problems. Canvas Companion does not sell your personal information.

If document text extraction fails after we have securely obtained the complete original, we may keep a private copy for up to 30 days to diagnose and test the failure. Access is restricted to our operators; the copy is not shared with AI assistants or included in operational emails. We keep at most 20 such documents per account in a 30-day period. Successful documents and incomplete downloads are not retained for this purpose.

You can disconnect Canvas or individual AI assistants and delete your account from the account page. Account deletion removes any retained failed-document copies. For access, correction, deletion, or privacy questions, email support@companionsupport.lakefill.app.

Service providers and connected assistants

Canvas Companion uses Amazon Web Services for hosting, account access, storage, and operational logging, and Stripe for subscription billing. Content you choose to use through a connected AI assistant is also processed under that assistant's privacy terms. Canvas and your school process information under their own policies.
